Welcome to The Karen Learning & Education Opportunities Support GroupOur Beginning In November, 2003 Coleen Scott made a request that donations in lieu of flowers in memory of her daughter be used to support an ethnic Karen village school in northern Thailand. Jen passed away while living and working with the Karen people in Thailand. This was the beginning of an eight year journey which expanded to include support for the Karen people of northwest Thailand, Karen refugees re-settling in Ottawa and Karen people who continue to live along the Thai/ Burma border.

The children at Mah Wah Khee School in nothern Thailand study a 50% Thai and 50% Karen curriculum in an effort to maintain their culture and language. In Burma, Karen people live under the control of a military junta where teaching and speaking Karen is banned. Ethnic minorities endure
